Common Myths About Hypnosis, and What Is Really True

“What is Hypnosis?”

We all go into natural hypnosis many times every day – we call it daydreaming.  This is when the mind wanders off to a different time and place and we go onto autopilot eg when mowing the lawn or washing dishes.  The subconscious mind comes forward to carry out the automatic tasks.  For therapy or self hypnosis we just add relaxation to the daydream.

Hypnosis is a pleasant state of mental and physical relaxation in which you are conscious and remember as much as normal.  You are in full control at all times in hypnosis: you can hear the hypnotherapists voice and any other sounds, and you can open your eyes and come out of hypnosis at any time. But when you are so relaxed, you’ll probably just want to enjoy it for a while longer. Many of my clients are keen to learn self hypnosis so that they can take themselves into deep relaxation whenever they choose.

I teach instant self hypnosis and clients generally find it is very easy.  I also encourage clients to practice mindfulness – being more present and living in the now.

“Why use hypnosis?”

In hypnosis the inward focus of the mind increases so the subconscious mind becomes more receptive and responsive to positive suggestion, ideas and visualisation – neuroscientists refer to this as neuroplasticity. This is the way we can help make positive changes more…

Many people are generally living normal and healthy lives and yet there may be some aspects they want to change – such as getting rid of a phobia, reducing anxiety, dealing with an addiction or a habit eg to quit smoking, vaping, control alcohol or stop nail biting.  They may want to lose weight, improve sleep, self esteem or confidence for public speaking and more…  Clients often say they have tried using will power but some changes need to take place at a subconscious level.  This is where our automatic patterns, habits and responses are established – and why hypnosis can be so useful more…

If you have been curious but a little unsure, I would be happy to answer your questions.  A free initial consultation is a relaxed way to find out whether hypnotherapy is right for you.
